Brooklands is an area of Greater Manchester, which falls under the Manchester City Council. It has a population of around 24,796 people. The Manchester Metrolink tram network passes through the district; Brooklands Station lies on the route between Manchester city centre and Altrincham. In 1862, Brooks (namesake of the village) built a private road running southeast from the station, with land intended for superior housing. This road still runs to the A538 Altrincham–Wilmslow road at Hale, making use of the earlier Roaring Gate Lane for part of the journey.
Average local house prices in Brooklands at the time of writing were £249,939, up 7% on the previous year. The majority of sales around Brooklands during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £311,650. Flats sold for an average of £140,588, with terraced properties selling for £208,167.
Brooklands was named after a Manchester-based Banker and Businessman who bought the land from the Earl of Stamford and set up the area which is now known as Brooklands. He then proceeded to build on the transport links to and from the area.
Brooklands lies 3.85 miles from City Airport Manchester, and is 5.33 miles from the main Manchester Airport. It benefits from a number of local businesses which are all situated near to and just outside the central hub of the village, including three B&B’s and a series of hotels and eateries. Brooklands is also just 3 miles from Altrincham General Hospital which serves Brooklands and other surrounding villages and towns.
Due to its location, Brooklands is often considered both part of Trafford and Manchester’s councils. Brooklands has an electoral ward both in Trafford and Manchester.
