Local town Aston Upon Mersey was joined together with Sale in the early stages of local farming, providing adequate land for crops and cattle farming. The name Sale comes from the Old English word salh, from which “Sale” is derived, meaning “at the sallow tree”
Sale boasts a wide range of leisure activities and facilities thanks to its central location on a major motorway, with a water park and leisure centre joining a large pedestrianised shopping precinct as features designed to draw in visitors to local Manchester and other areas of the borough.
Interestingly, the town’s water supply comes from the nearby Lake District. Sale Moor, to the Southeast of the main town, makes up a small part of the area and has its own small commercial space.
